Flying Ant Infestations in Rochdale, Oldham and Bury.
Sunday, April 3rd, 2011Ants in the house have become the scourge of many properties in summer leaving a number of people to fear the summertime together with the yearly flying ant invasion.
Only the unlucky people that have encountered it will know the true effects of flying ants in their houses.
Getting an infestation of ordinary wingless ants is bad enough however, when they enter their annual mating phase your situation may become dreadul.
Ants often form colonies underneath the floors as well as in the wall cavities of our own dwellings and these colonies will survive for several years if not treated becoming significantly more persistent as the years go on.
Our dwellings are warm and dry and supply the perfect places for a thriving ant colony; even solid asphalt floor is not really a hindrance to ants.
Our heating systems keeps their metabolism even in winter and my earliest ant treatment was on my birthday, in January!
Ants and flying ants like a sandy soil and there are wide ranging areas in Lancashire, Cheshire and Manchester which have a tendency to provide more ant problems than most others, Southport, Blackpool, Bolton, Sale & Altrincham come to mind as regular ant spots.
Unfortunately it is during their mating time that they will be most troublesome. Throughout Lancashire, Cheshire and Manchester this usually is pretty often around the third or fourth week in July.
Ants mate on the wing and sometime around mid-summer the colony produces winged immature Queens and winged males which in nature would fly off and mate in the air. Many thousands of such winged ants are created by each and nests usually time their release so that they mate with ants from neighbouring nests.
Usually the process starts after a period of days of hot, dry weather and will typically last for about a week although smaller releases will extend throughout most of the summermonths.
Unfortunately in the event the nest is built under a floor of the dwelling the effects may be devastating, thousands of winged ants are released into the lower rooms, collecting on windows as they head for the light.
This really is extremely distressing for some people creating extreme emotional trauma to the level that people learn to hate the summer months and have actually sold their homes to escape the plague of ants that they know will come each summer.
The wet summers of 2008, 2009 & 2010 have meant that ant problems were down on earlier but ants appear to have a method of making up ground and 2011 looks set to be a particularly problematic year.
Most people who have this problem opt for DIY solutions with powders from hardware shops etc but mostly these efforts fail as they are not getting to the heart of the problem which is the colony itself, hidden away safely in the cavity wall or sub-floor area.
Luckily for many people help.
At Harrier Pest Control (subject to site survey) we are able to remedy this issue and give an extendable three year guarantee.
The treatment which is done mainly from the outside of the house, is perfectly safe for animals and children and produces no smell, involves drilling small holes into the cavity walls of the property, not unlike a damp-course injection and blowing an insecticidal powder directly into the cavity wall under pressure.
This forms an impenetrable barrier through which the ants cannot cross and and also a precautionary internal spray treatment (if considered necessary) will slowly but surely bring the infestation under control.
The holes, which are only 8mm in diameter remain open so it’s a simply matter of topping up the cavity walls every 36 months to extend the effectiveness of the guarantee in three year terms.
This treatment is best carried out in early spring however it may be done anytime of year.
As a limited time offer before our busy period begins we are offering to you 25% off the standard cost until May 30 2010. Whilst we ordinarily cover the entire of Lancashire, Cheshire and Greater Manchester, we’re able to travel further afield but this will be reflected in the cost.
